Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful break with a chance to relax and spend time with family and friends.

We are almost halfway there. I will share the midyear exam schedule later this week once liaisons provide some feedback. I will plan to share it with students and guardians on Friday.

There is no X-block today, Tuesday, January 3. Please instruct students to spend this time signing up for activities for the week. Remind them the semester comes to an end in less than 3 weeks!

Please welcome some new staff members to the AHS family!
Will Viti starts today in the history department. He is a certified history teacher who will be teaching psychology.
Elizabeth Darling will be starting sometime in the next week with the EL department as an ESP.

We saw an uptick in staff illness/absences before break that I anticipate will continue into the new year. A few reminders regarding absences:
1. Please make sure to include your plans in your request. It can be as simple as saying instructions will be in Google Classroom.
2. Do not count on a sub or students being in your classroom. Materials & directions should not be left in your classroom.
3. If you are Covid positive please feel free to check in with me or the nurses regarding dates. The rule of thumb is "day 0 is symptom onset or positive test, whatever happened first. You can return to school on day 6 and stay masked through day 10."
4. If you can remember, we find days are more likely to be picked up if they are entered individually. If you know you need to be out 5 days, enter them all at once, but as separate days rather than a group.
5. If you are taking partial days please try to change your status to no sub needed.
Please take care of yourselves and your families!

Important dates this month:
January 9-11 - ACCESS testing begins for EL students
January 12- Faculty meeting
January 13-16- Family Reconnect Weekend - no homework, please review policy here
January 17- Professional Day
January 24-27 - Midyear exams
January 26- 8th grade step-up day - potential new students will tour after exams
                    Department meeting
January 30- ACCESS testing
February 1- grades due 3pm

Have a wonderful week!

Good afternoon- Thanks to everyone who helped to make New Student Orientation a success last night. It was great to see so many students and staff in the building. I am looking forward to seeing you all on Monday. We start at 8AM in the auditorium. There will be some members of the Class of 2026 painting their parking spots on Monday afternoon. Please try to park in the faculty parking lot or in the back of the building if you usually park in the student section.  New staff, please join the staff  Google Classroom . All information sent to faculty/staff will be housed here. The  class code is a5ca6a4. The custodians have been working hard to make sure each classroom has the correct number of desks (minus study halls). There may be a few classrooms off a desk or two based on student moves at the end of this week. If anyone has furniture in their rooms that is not being used, please let me know. We are short some L-shaped desks, under-desk file cabinets, and bookcases....

Good afternoon- I hope you have been able to dig out from the storm. Tomorrow is sure to be a little chaotic, and I fully predict we will have students who don't understand the exam schedule changes and families who may keep their students home. We will need to be flexible! Stay warm! Here is the schedule for tomorrow:  G block exam: 10:30 am- 12 pm Lunch: 1st (12:05-12:35) - English, math, & science             2nd (12:40-1:10) - history, world language, unified arts, special education, ELL & wellness Students will need to be asked to remain in their class for first lunch and return to the class they were testing in for second lunch. We will do our best with this but are not going to stress about kids being elsewhere. We have no way of knowing how many G block students are staying for A block.  A block exam: 1:15 pm- 2:45 pm Along with the updated midyear exam schedule .  Grades for Term 2 will close on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, a...
