Happy Monday- I hope everyone is dug out from the snow. I hope you enjoyed the Superbowl if you watched it. I have a lot of team requests this week. We know the students respond positively when we are all on the same page and consistent with expectations.
As I mentioned earlier this week, we have had a few incidents in the past couple of weeks of students using their own devices in the classroom and issues of cheating, inappropriate access to sites, etc. coming up. Please remind students that it is the expectation that they are using a school-issued device. If they have a problem with their Chromebook they should bring it to the office for repairs. Personal laptops can not be supported by IT, are not accessible if you use GoGuardian, and can not print to AHS printers. Please use your discretion and think about your goals for an activity if a student is using their own computer. Thanks for working together on this. A message to the students and families went out in the newsletter on Friday.
If you are hosting a big event in the building over the weekend that involves the use of colleagues' spaces, could you make sure I am aware and can notify staff? Please make sure they are posted on the AHS calendar as well (you can ask Linda to add the event). You should operate with the assumption that your classroom/space might be used as AHS is a public building at all times but it is helpful to specifically know in order to make sure cabinets and drawers are locked.
Student phone usage has been on the rise in the hallways. In order for the phone policy to work, everyone needs to follow through and enforce it. Students should not leave the classroom with their phone unless it is requested a person requesting to see them. It is also something we should be modeling in the classroom. I am committing to do better with it. Please join me if you find yourself on your phone during class time.
Please make sure you are stopping to look and wait for cars to see you before crossing the road. In our efforts to slow down traffic, I have received reports that staff walk into the road without looking or waiting for a car to slow down. Don't assume a car sees you when they come around the corner.
