Good morning-
I hope you had an enjoyable long weekend and had an opportunity to thank the veterans in your life. We are grateful for their service.
I was lucky enough to once again chaperone students from the Make-A-Wish club to volunteer at Give Kids the World. It was an incredible experience for all. It makes me so proud to see the work our students do and the impact they have on the Village and the families that are visiting. The trip is a meaningful opportunity for students to learn about service and compassion.
While I know some of you may disagree, I firmly believe in the importance of these trips and the learning opportunities they offer. Unfortunately, there is limited time for students to complete homework and/or study for assessments. And sometimes, when there is time, it is not a conducive environment. I ask that all teachers respect the attendance policy as it is written and give students who were absent last week, for any reason, time to make up assignments. Students should not be expected to take assessments or turn in work assigned while they were gone today (Tuesday). Students have been told they should reach out to teachers to make arrangements to complete missed assignments within a day or two.
In reviewing our handbook, I do see there is language that states students on a field trip should be ready to turn in work from a class they missed on the day they return. This is unrealistic in many cases and not in line with the overall attendance policy that gives students two days for each day missed to complete missed assignments. Please reach out to me if you have specific questions about your class and work assigned.
As a reminder, math MCAS retakes are scheduled Tuesday, November 12 and Wednesday, November 13. Please review the information shared by Meaghan regarding who will be testing and proctor coverage.
The grading window will close promptly at 8:10am on Thursday, November 14. Let Jess and me know if you have any issues. Grades will be available for students and parents after school on the 14th.
We have a faculty meeting scheduled Thursday, November 14 from 2:50-3:50pm. Please let me know if you have an agenda item. We will be sharing a new resource on supporting students with mental health concerns, recommended by the JED High School program.
There will be no X-block on Tuesday, November 19 so that all students can take the JED High School survey. If the faculty survey is ready this Thursday, there will be time during our faculty meeting to complete it. If not, there will be time dedicated next week during department meeting time. Please note that department meetings this month will be held next Thursday, November 21.
Have a wonderful week!
