Good evening-
I hope you had a nice weekend. I know for many it was filled with grading and planning for the start of semester 2. The grading window will close on Wednesday afternoon at 3pm.
Please remind students to check their schedules as semester courses and study halls have changed. Lunches remain the same.
All teachers should be starting the process of course recommendations. The window will close for teachers on February 10. Please ask if you need assistance.
Last week I asked liaisons hold department discussions on how midyear exams are used to provide students feedback and inform your curriculum. Some liaisons have shared notes from the department discussion but we would love to hear from you how you will review exams with students and help them to be reflective learners. Feel free to invite your evaluator by this week to see how you share feedback with students.
Friday is the second annua Flag Day ceremony. It will be held in the gym during the X-block time. The modified schedule can be found here and linked in the AHS calendar.
On January 11 Chris Mathieu shared information on how to submit Professional Growth Credit Applications (PGCA) and Course Reimbursements moving forward. You should not use the Google forms anymore. I have attached the directions here.
Student attendance-
As you know, we are holding to the handbook attendance policy this year, and therefore have many students who will be receiving warnings and attendance contracts over the next few weeks. Students who are absent more than 8 days for a half year course and 15 days for a full year course may lose credit.
-Due to inconsistency in iPass with attendance per class period any student who has 12 or more absences for a half year class will be losing credit for the course. If it is under 12 and we have been made aware that it is over 8 absences by the teacher those students will also lose credit. It is not feasible to cross reference daily attendance with period attendance for every student over 8.
-Students with more than 8 absences but less than 12 days will receive an attendance warning letter.
-Students with more than 12 days absent but less than 16 days absent will receive an attendance contract stating they have lost credit for semester 1 classes, and are in danger of losing credit for their full year classes if they do not stay under the limit of 16 unexcused absences for the remainder of the year.
-We do have many students who have already exceeded the attendance limit of 16. Those students and parents will receive notice of loss of credit as well as a plan to work to improve attendance in the hopes they can change behaviors. Loss of credit for full year classes for students who pass will be determined on a case by case basis based on how the student responds to the attendance contract for the second semester.
Please speak to the student's Dean if you have a question about attendance and credit.
Meal expectations-
This message will be shared with students tomorrow regarding cafeteria expectations:
I am writing specifically to share some changes to cafeteria expectations moving forward. After discussions with our Director of Facilities and for health and safety reasons, from now on all food is required to be kept in the areas designated for eating. During breakfast and lunch, all food must remain in the cafeteria and outside picnic area. Students are no longer able to eat outside of the cafeteria. This is a return to pre-Covid cafeteria expectations. We have added some more tables to the cafeteria area, including some tall standing tables, to provide more eating areas.
Please help us abide by health and safety expectations by only eating in the cafeteria.
Please support expectations by redirecting students into the cafeteria if they have food when you have lunch duty.
