Good evening-
As a reminder there will be no X-block on Monday, January 10 so we can complete the Flag survey, yearbook superlatives and have students schedule themselves for the week. Please encourage students to sign-up to see you as we prepare for mid-term exams.
I hope you have had some good conversation about mid-term exams as a department or plan to do so this week. As I shared with liaisons last week, I have concerns about students being prepared for exams if they have an extended absence in the next couple of weeks. I am also concerned for teachers. If you have a large number of students who are out and need to earn incompletes this will be an added burden. I would like to finalize our approach at the end of the week. Some thoughts shared by liaisons were to waive the exam for students who are absent in the next few weeks or during exam week (for legitimate illness reasons) as well as averaging the exam score with other test scores or dropping the lowest test grade. It is important that we are thoughtful of the fact that students are very out of practice with this type of assessment. It is a good opportunity to reintroduce them to a larger exam but we need to be willing to be flexible with students capacity for success on a bigger test. I will ask that liaisons share what their department would like to do with me by this Friday so please share your input with them.
If you have seen the document for Friday, you know that you can choose to work from home that day. I expect to receive the Zoom link from the ADL mid-week and will send it out then.
Challenge Day- We need you! Now, more than ever, building relationships and culture of acceptance is critical. Please consider signing up to participate in Challenge Day this year. We welcome seasoned participants as well as anyone new.
ACCESS testing for ELL students:
The window for Caroll to administer ACCESS testing for our ELL student has begun. While Caroll is going to do her best to administer testing to students while she has them in class, there might be times where she has to pull them from a class as there are a few students who need to test who do not see Caroll for support. Caroll will communicate with teachers if students are going to be missing a class due to testing.
Have a wonderful week!
