Good evening-

I hope you had a restful weekend. If you have seen Jim's email you are aware AHS and AMS students will be remote this week. The building will be open to faculty and staff during regular teaching days (Wednesday is still a closed day.) Per the MOU, you can make the decision about working from the school or home. We will have everyone sign in and out if you are in the building so we know who is in the building in the event of an emergency.

I am going to add the following information to the AHS Hybrid/Remote Learning Expectations (pending any feedback). This is information that was discussed by the reopening team but not shared in the document. Please review and let me know if you have questions. As Jim said, this is a great opportunity to have 4 days of synchronous learning for all but I understand some of you aren't ready to jump in there. It's also a chance to get a little more instructional time since mask breaks won't be needed, but please set expectations at the beginning of class for taking a movement/restroom break. The lunch time designated is the same for all. I believe it needs to be consistent to be less confusing for students and families.

Additions to AHS Hybrid/Remote Learning Expectations(added 10/12/2020):
Fully Remote Learning Times
If at any point AHS goes fully remote both A and B cohorts will follow the same remote schedule each day. Teachers are encouraged to use this opportunity to teach both cohorts synchronously if possible. The time schedule for each block will be the same as the hybrid model Monday/Tuesday & Thursday/Friday.
8:35-10:05- C block
10:10-11:40- E block
11:45-12:15-Lunch break
12:15-1:45- F block
1:50-2:55- D block

Wednesday will continue to be the schedule we have been following:
9:30-10:00-C Block
10:05-10:35-E Block
10:40-11:10-F Block
11:15-11:45-D Block

Additional Expectations for Full Remote Days
All classes should begin with a GoogleMeet (or currently used platform) check in for attendance and instruction.

Attendance will be tracked in iPass as Remote Present or Remote Absent. If a student is unable to attend school remotely a parent should call the AHS attendance line at 508-88-0177 or email ahsmainoffice@ashland.k12.ma.us.

Teachers do not need to keep students on a GoogleMeet for the entire block but are allowed to do so.  If teachers do not keep students on GoogleMeet for the entire block it is the expectation that they are providing assignments and work that will take the entire block to complete and students should complete the assignment at that time.

Teachers should be accessible during the entire class block to answer questions or provide help if students need it via email, GoogleMeet.

All classes should end with a GoogleMeet check in to ensure students have completed work, to answer questions, and to assign homework.

Students do not need to login to a GoogleMeet for study hall, but should be checking in for all other classes each day.

In light of this afternoons news I am glad I was already planning to share this article that I came across in one of my association newsletters this week. We are so lucky to have Rockstar's Maureen and Erin on our team. They have been phenomenal!! Make sure to say thanks when you get a chance: Now Taking the Stage During the Pandemic: The School Nurse

Grading reminders: Please remember to check your gradebooks to make sure grades are showing for students.

Site Council: Thanks to those that have expressed interest. At this time the first meeting is scheduled for November 18 at 4pm. There may be a need for an earlier meeting but we need to wait after the official parent vote on October 22.

A reminder for when we are back in the building with students.....
Please understand that your students may not be in the classroom with a sub. They may be moved to the cafeteria or another classroom space and therefore not have access to materials in your room. Your sub plans should account for this. Thanks!

Another timely article:

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with questions. Email or text (508-808-0109) if you need anything. Thank you for your ongoing flexibility and commitment to the students of AHS.

Good afternoon- Thanks to everyone who helped to make New Student Orientation a success last night. It was great to see so many students and staff in the building. I am looking forward to seeing you all on Monday. We start at 8AM in the auditorium. There will be some members of the Class of 2026 painting their parking spots on Monday afternoon. Please try to park in the faculty parking lot or in the back of the building if you usually park in the student section.  New staff, please join the staff  Google Classroom . All information sent to faculty/staff will be housed here. The  class code is a5ca6a4. The custodians have been working hard to make sure each classroom has the correct number of desks (minus study halls). There may be a few classrooms off a desk or two based on student moves at the end of this week. If anyone has furniture in their rooms that is not being used, please let me know. We are short some L-shaped desks, under-desk file cabinets, and bookcases....

Happy Mother's Day to all of the moms & mother figures out there- Best of luck to the special athletes competing in the 5-Town Special Olympics today!  I apologize for the late notice, but we will do a class meeting with the juniors/prom attendees on Tuesday, May 13, and the seniors on Wednesday, May 14, during x-block. Please send your second block seniors to the auditorium, as we are not able to make announcements on 5/14.  Art Saves Ashland, which includes the student art show, as well as the Spring Choral Concert, are happening back to back on Thursday, May 15, starting at 4pm.  The concert is at 7pm in the auditorium. These events showcase the amazing talent of many of our students.  Here is the Early Release schedule for Friday, May 16. You can also find it linked on the school calendar. Good morning- I hope the adjustment to the clocks springing forward hasn't thrown you off too much. I love that it means more light in the afternoon/evening.  On Thursday, March 13 year 2/3 teachers from Milford and Nipmuc High Schools will be here for learning walks. I have shared a schedule with impacted teachers but it may change over the next few days. Thank you for your flexibility and willingness to welcome new educators.  I am sure you saw Jim's message that the School Committee will hear our proposal on Competency Determination for the Class of 2025 at their meeting on Wednesday, March 12. I hope to share an update at our faculty meeting on Thursday, March 13, after school in the library . The meeting will involve MCAS training. As you are aware, the state has moved to a new portal so it will be important information for everyone to hear. Training for staff that do not attend faculty meetings will be scheduled at another time. Following the training, we will be walking...
