Good afternoon-

I hope everyone had a wonderful Family Reconnect Weekend!  I am looking forward to a fun Spirit/Homecoming week. I hope to see many of you at the bbq/tailgate on Friday night.  Faculty eat free so see one of us for a ticket and bring your family to enjoy the fun.

Faculty meeting is Thursday, October 10 at 2:50pm.  We look forward to introducing Jennifer Cutler, our new Director of Counseling and Social-Emotional Learning.  We will also be joined by MPY (Middlesex Partnerships for Youth) for our annual bullying training.

If you haven't had a chance to check out the message from Chad yet, please do so ASAP.  We are hoping to pull together a diverse team of teachers interested in innovation!
Do you have innovative ideas, or interest in learning about innovation in education? Do you need someone to share these ideas and discussions with? Then our new Innovation Team may be just for you. Please read the attached newsletter and complete the survey so we can find out who wants to be involved in this new team. There are no commitments, just opportunity.

Looking forward to talking with you,

Chad

Reminders from Student Council/Josh!
Homecoming is next week, and here's everything you need to know.  Please read carefully, because there are lots of "things" that I need from people!

Homecoming Dress-Up Days: - Please feel free to participate in the following dress up days (it's always more fun when teachers dress-up!)
Tuesday, October 9th - Pajama Day
Wednesday, October 10th - USA Day
Thursday, October 11th - Jersey Day (wear a sports jersey, I suppose, or anything sports-related?)
Friday, October 12th - Class Color Day

Homecoming Court - Nominations due by 5pm on Wednesday, October 10th - Teachers are being asked to nominate the most "spirited" students for the Homecoming court.  Use your own definition of "spirited" -- most involved in the school, most involved in class, participate the best in the dress-up-days, just a great kid, etc.  The Homecoming court ballots will be chosen based on your nominations.  I will send out a google form next Monday night (and then again on Tuesday and Wednesday).  Please help me out with this!  Nominations will close at 5pm on Wednesday, October 10th (and my board will go through them that night and choose the finalists.)  All finalists will get a letter Thursday morning so they know they've nominated and will have the opportunity to take themselves off the ballot if they're not comfortable being recognized like this.  All faculty / staff / administration who votes will get a chocolate thank-you from me in their mailbox after they nominate student!!  (Please help!)

Homecoming Court Elections - Friday, October 12th There will be a very short (2 minute) Homeroom on Friday, October 12th at the start of the day for voting to take place.  Ballots will be in your box first thing on Friday morning the 12th.  After the voting, hold onto the ballots and a member of the Student Council will pick them up.

I would love some help counting the ballots during the day on Friday, October 12th (C Day).  Please let me know if you'd be willing to help.

Homecoming Rally - Friday, October 12th - 1:50 - 2:45pm - Thank you to everyone who has volunteered for our annual chair-race.  If you're participating, please make sure you go to the Google Doc (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hvkHFuXtW67Q2Y3K9yFk-EXSGOCGRjw0OM0WKQG_Y6o/edit) and add in the name of your chair-pusher by Tuesday, October 9th.  I'm still looking for one more participant (so we'll have four even teams).  Please let me know if I can add you to the list -- the first person I hear from will get the spot.  Schedule for the day is here!

In addition, once again, if you are a club advisor and would like a member of your club to give a quick update on what your club has already done this year or any upcoming events, please add it into the Google Doc at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dw2axzir4d3TapZpdwuuETJ-4ZJfMSbGG29w-LNaE4Q/edit by Tuesday, October 9th.

Homecoming Tailgate Barbecue - Friday, October 12th - 5pm - 7pm - Come bring your family and join us for our "tailgate" barbecue in the small parking lot by the stadium.  Faculty members are free (you'll get a coupon from Kelley or one of the deans -- thank you, Kelley!) and the cost is $5/person for additional family members.  There will be burgers (veggie burgers available), hot dogs, chips, and dessert.  There will also be games.

Homecoming Football Game - Friday, October 12th - 7pm - Come support AHS at the Homecoming Football Game against Westwood.

Homecoming Dance - Saturday, October 13th - 7pm - 9:30pm - Thank you to everyone who has agreed to chaperone.  (I'll send out more details next week).  We're still looking for a few more people.  The Student Council has been going around "inviting" all members of the faculty, but there are few people they weren't able to find (so you didn't get a personal invitation...   but you have one waiting for you!)  Please let me know if you'd like to help.  It's a lot of fun (and I'd really appreciate the help.)

I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but hopefully this takes care of most of the week!

A reminder that we will administer the Metrowest Adolescent Health Survey once again on Tuesday, October 30th.  The schedule was sent by Erin and is linked here as well.

Attached is a letter from Secretary Peyser regarding Fall 2018 STEM Week that is being held the week of October 22nd

I've been thinking a lot this year about keeping things positive and focusing on what every student at AHS can not (rather than what they can't do....)
This article resonated with the thought of not comparing groups.

Good afternoon- Thanks to everyone who helped to make New Student Orientation a success last night. It was great to see so many students and staff in the building. I am looking forward to seeing you all on Monday. We start at 8AM in the auditorium. There will be some members of the Class of 2026 painting their parking spots on Monday afternoon. Please try to park in the faculty parking lot or in the back of the building if you usually park in the student section.  New staff, please join the staff  Google Classroom . All information sent to faculty/staff will be housed here. The  class code is a5ca6a4. The custodians have been working hard to make sure each classroom has the correct number of desks (minus study halls). There may be a few classrooms off a desk or two based on student moves at the end of this week. If anyone has furniture in their rooms that is not being used, please let me know. We are short some L-shaped desks, under-desk file cabinets, and bookcases....

Happy Mother's Day to all of the moms & mother figures out there- Best of luck to the special athletes competing in the 5-Town Special Olympics today!  I apologize for the late notice, but we will do a class meeting with the juniors/prom attendees on Tuesday, May 13, and the seniors on Wednesday, May 14, during x-block. Please send your second block seniors to the auditorium, as we are not able to make announcements on 5/14.  Art Saves Ashland, which includes the student art show, as well as the Spring Choral Concert, are happening back to back on Thursday, May 15, starting at 4pm.  The concert is at 7pm in the auditorium. These events showcase the amazing talent of many of our students.  Here is the Early Release schedule for Friday, May 16. You can also find it linked on the school calendar. Departments will continue work on curriculum mapping for the afternoon.  Grand March will begin at 4:30pm in the gym if you are planning to stick around to see our p...

Good morning- I hope the adjustment to the clocks springing forward hasn't thrown you off too much. I love that it means more light in the afternoon/evening.  On Thursday, March 13 year 2/3 teachers from Milford and Nipmuc High Schools will be here for learning walks. I have shared a schedule with impacted teachers but it may change over the next few days. Thank you for your flexibility and willingness to welcome new educators.  I am sure you saw Jim's message that the School Committee will hear our proposal on Competency Determination for the Class of 2025 at their meeting on Wednesday, March 12. I hope to share an update at our faculty meeting on Thursday, March 13, after school in the library . The meeting will involve MCAS training. As you are aware, the state has moved to a new portal so it will be important information for everyone to hear. Training for staff that do not attend faculty meetings will be scheduled at another time. Following the training, we will be walking...
