Good afternoon & happy Sunday!

I hope you enjoyed the weekend and survived the heavy rain without too much damage.

Here's hoping the Red Sox win tonight, I am guessing there will be a lot of tired faculty and students tomorrow morning.

We are only two weeks away from the end of the 1st term. Please make sure you are updating your grades and checking in with students that are struggling.

Classroom observation request:
On November 15th Ashland will host 2nd year teachers from Mendon/Upton and Milford. One part of the visit is class visits. There will be 7 teachers looking to visit two classrooms for 20 minutes at a time.  They will be here to visit from 10:50-11:35am.  Please let me know if you'd be willing to host the visitors!

A reminder that Tuesday we will administer the Metrowest Adolescent Health Survey to all students.
Please review the email from Erin sent last Tuesday:

Dear Teachers,
We will be requiring your assistance with administering an important student survey on October 30, 2018 during Homeroom 10:06-11:06am. A modified schedule for that day has been shared.

The MetroWest Adolescent Health Survey is part of a regional effort to collect valuable information on the health and risk behaviors of students, including: alcohol, tobacco, and other substance use; violence and bullying, including cyberbullying; physical activity and nutrition; mental health; and sexual behaviors. Our district has administered this survey every other year since 2006. The information gained through this survey will help our district to develop better health education and prevention programs.

Research has shown that students tell the truth on surveys such as the MWAHS when they perceive the survey to be important and when measures are taken to ensure their privacy. Therefore, we ask that you present the survey to the students in a way which emphasizes how important it is to improving the health and safety of students at our school. It is also important that you closely follow the procedures for administering the survey so that students feel that their answers are anonymous.

A letter was sent to parents/guardians to give them the option of not having their child(ren) participate in the survey. If you have a student in your homeroom who will not be taking the survey due to the parents opting them out you will be made aware via email. Students who do not have permission to participate can do a quiet activity (read, study) while the survey is being administered. Students will also be given the choice on the day of the survey whether or not to complete it.

Administration of the survey consists of the following:
¨  Start the survey administration right at beginning of the class period to ensure that students have enough time to complete it.
¨  Separate students  as best as you can so they can answer the survey in privacy and aren’t able to easily view their peers’ answers.
¨ Hand out surveys and read a brief set of instructions.
¨  Maintain order during the survey, but avoid circulating around the room so students feel that they can answer privately.
¨ Fill out the information on the back of the survey envelope to indicate the number of students participating, number absent, number who choose not to take the survey, etc.
¨  Have students place their completed surveys in an envelope and seal it before students leave the classroom.
¨Return sealed envelope to Erin Lachapelle’s office promptly at the end of homeroom.
  • If students finish early allow them to read quietly or do other independent work.
  • Post and identify the attached document "Where to go for Help" which provides resources for both in and out of school.

  • We will distribute survey materials and more detailed instructions on the day prior to the survey administration.

  • PLEASE PICK UP YOUR PACKET OF SURVEY MATERIALS ON Monday October 29th Survey packets will be in mailboxes.

Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns related to the survey.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Erin

Good afternoon- Thanks to everyone who helped to make New Student Orientation a success last night. It was great to see so many students and staff in the building. I am looking forward to seeing you all on Monday. We start at 8AM in the auditorium. There will be some members of the Class of 2026 painting their parking spots on Monday afternoon. Please try to park in the faculty parking lot or in the back of the building if you usually park in the student section.  New staff, please join the staff  Google Classroom . All information sent to faculty/staff will be housed here. The  class code is a5ca6a4. The custodians have been working hard to make sure each classroom has the correct number of desks (minus study halls). There may be a few classrooms off a desk or two based on student moves at the end of this week. If anyone has furniture in their rooms that is not being used, please let me know. We are short some L-shaped desks, under-desk file cabinets, and bookcases....

Good morning- I hope the adjustment to the clocks springing forward hasn't thrown you off too much. I love that it means more light in the afternoon/evening.  On Thursday, March 13 year 2/3 teachers from Milford and Nipmuc High Schools will be here for learning walks. I have shared a schedule with impacted teachers but it may change over the next few days. Thank you for your flexibility and willingness to welcome new educators.  I am sure you saw Jim's message that the School Committee will hear our proposal on Competency Determination for the Class of 2025 at their meeting on Wednesday, March 12. I hope to share an update at our faculty meeting on Thursday, March 13, after school in the library . The meeting will involve MCAS training. As you are aware, the state has moved to a new portal so it will be important information for everyone to hear. Training for staff that do not attend faculty meetings will be scheduled at another time. Following the training, we will be walking...
