Good evening-
I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I can't get over the weather!
I am so excited for this week. Homecoming always brings so much fun and a positive energy to the building. The addition of having Jamele Adams joining us on Tuesday is going to make it an extra special week. I hope you all get a chance to hear his message of Love-Inclusion-Trust. I know he is going to have a positive impact on our students, and it's needed with some of the issues we have faced this fall. It kills me to know we have kids facing antisemitism, racism, sexual harassment... and the list goes on, every day when they are just trying to learn and get ready for their future. The fact that we have dealt with all of these issues in the front office since school has started tells me it is happening often ways we aren't aware of.
I certainly don't see Jamele speaking to the students as a one time thing. It is a part of a series of events we have planned this year to build inclusion and respect among our students. If you enjoy his message on Tuesday please consider joining the community Courageous Conversation on Tuesday, October 24 at 6:30pm in the cafe. We will host a World Cafe round table discussion, led by our students. They have developed the questions that all sectors of our community will come together to discuss It will be a great night.
Following that on Thursday, November 30 AHS will host it's first ever Challenge Day! Challenge Day is a day-long interactive program that provides teens and adults with tools to tear down walls of separation, and inspires them to live, study, and work in an encouraging environment of acceptance, love, and respect. Using highly interactive and energetic activities, leaders guide the participants through a carefully designed exploration of the ways people separate from each other, and model tools for creating connection and building community. It is an amazing experience that I was lucky enough to participate in at Andover High School last year. Jen Shiels joined Norwood High School when they held their event. We will have 80-100 students from across all demographics at AHS participate. It will be a different day (for your planning purposes). We need up to 20 of you to join us in this amazing day. Please ask Jen or I about our experience if you are interested in participating!
As a reminder the CIAC (Connecticut's MIAA) will be here next week evaluating our athletics program. Mike will be reaching out to people to participate in their interviews but please let him know if you are interested.
Have a wonderful week!
